Age Concern What is Age Concern? Well, it's what it says on the label - concern for older people. We're talking about anyone over 60. It's not just making sure I know my rights, claim what I am entitled to (there are still millions of pounds worth of unclaimed benefit). It is also about encouraging me to stay active and enjoy life. They remind me of my responsibilities: Have I made a will? Have I signed forms for Power of Attorney? I can even request someone to come to my home and help me fill in the forms. They help Care Home residents to speak out. They have hints and tips on house maintenance and safety. They have a phone link service where a kindly volunteer rings an isolated or lonely person who may have no-one to say "How are you?" In this village we are lucky that many people have family not too far away, and many good and kindly neighbours, but do let me know of anyone who may like to have this service, or, indeed any other service. All staff and volunteers sign an undertaking of confidentiality. Since becoming a "local link" I find that I have great respect for the organisation, so I hope you will contact me if help is needed, for yourself or anyone you know. I have some useful telephone numbers. Win Glendenning. |
