Millennium Wood

The Millennium Wood is progressing well; most of the original plantings have survived through the initial very dry period and continue to flourish.

In 2004 the first open day was held so that villagers could see for themselves the result of their efforts in planting the wood in 2000. The first stage of constructing a protected yet accessible entrance area was completed with the installation of a new gate.

A commemorative illustrated booklet listing the names of all those who contributed to the wood was published. Copies can be purchased from Brian Fishwick or Betty Price for £1 each. Proceeds will help the fund the future maintenance of the wood. The A3 leather bound commemorative book is now finished and available to view in St Agatha’s Church..

Routine inspection of the trees and maintenance of the wood such as weed control is carried out by group members.

In January 2005, with the co-operation of David Greasby, we arranged for the cutting back of the external perimeter hedge of the wood.
