Following an idea from Tony Stapleton over 40 village golfers were canvassed in the Spring of 2003 to see if they would participate in a local Brightwell-cum-Sotwell Golf Society. The objective was to have fun, meet other village golfers and play on different courses. The idea became so successful that we now have over 50 village golfers registered on our mailing list.
We meet twice a year. The first meeting is always an individual competition and is usually held at the Springs GC in June. The second meeting is a team event held on a different course of which a villager is a member and usually occurs in early September.
Details and entry forms are circulated (email and post) approximately 6 weeks before the actual competition date. So if you are not on our mailing list and would like to join (or know a villager who would) please contact either Gerard Varley (Tel (01491) 826015), Jamie Robertson (Tel (01491) 837245) or Tony Stapleton (Tel (01491) 838886).
Alistair Weathers All to win
Autumn Village Golf Competition!
A lousy rainy day spoilt the golf but not the spirits of the villagers who took part in the Autumn Village Golf Competition held on Friday September 28 at Goring & Streatley Golf Club. (All previous nine meetings have had exceptionally sunny weather).
Our congratulations go to Alistair Butt who won first prize; David Fox who was second and Sarah Wintle who came third. Jamie Robertson won the Men’s longest drive and Guy Dexter was nearest the pin. Gerard Varley presented the prizes after a very convivial dinner which everyone agreed was the perfect hot recipe after an unusually wet, cold and bedraggled day. Let’s hope that our next meeting at the Springs GC on Tuesday June 3 lives up to its name. See you then!

Another Fine Day for the Village Golf Competition
(said David Fox who then went on to win the Cup!!)
Fine weather always seems to be the “norm” when the Brightwell-cum-Sotwell Golf Society meets for its twice-yearly competitions. The 9th meeting held at the Springs GC was no exception using the individual Stableford format. Glorious conditions prevailed after several days of poor weather. There was very little wind, lots of sun and the greens were fast but true. Our congratulations go to David Fox (pictured) who won the Individual Challenge Cup with 40 points and also the Nearest The Pin Competition. Simon Hunt was second with 39 points and Geoff Cordey was third with 38 points. David Dobbin achieved the longest drive for men and Jenny Robertson the longest drive for the ladies. Tony Stapleton presented the prizes at a very convivial dinner that was held afterwards in the Club House. Everyone agreed it was a great day and a wonderful way to meet up with other like-minded villagers and have some fun.
The Autumn meeting is again being held at Goring and Streatley GC on Friday September 28th at 2pm.
