Kings Meadow Tennis Club Kings Meadow Tennis Club is a thriving village organisation with over 170 members, of whom half are juniors. During the 2004/5 season, the Club became an associate member of the Lawn Tennis Association. The tennis courts are situated on Kings Meadow, which is in the centre of the village. The Club is mainly a non-competitive and social tennis club attracting members from both within Brightwell and from neighbouring villages. The tennis season starts on 1 April, and we kick off the new season with a Fun Open Day and Tournament. This afternoon is an opportunity to dig out those old racquets and hit a few balls, enjoy some home-made refreshments, and anyone who is thinking of taking up tennis again is especially welcome. A number of events are arranged during the year including tournaments, BBQ and a Christmas Supper in the Red Lion pub. The courts have allocated times for various age groups. Generally, adults meet on Tuesday evenings, and Wednesday evening is a young teenager night. During the summer, supervised sessions for juniors are arranged on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Free coaching is offered to juniors. The Club feels that we should encourage our young people to play tennis by offering them this benefit. We could have a future Wimbledon champion amongst us! The Club has the use of a professional coach who provides group coaching for our junior members, and also for our adult members, for a nominal charge. If you feel you may benefit from some private coaching on either an individual or small group basis, we can supply details of a couple of local professional tennis coaches who are willing to provide this service. For details of membership, please contact Eastlyn Horsfield, Membership Secretary on 01491 832041 or e-mail wthorsfield@yahoo.com. New members are always welcome! |
