The Millennium Wood

Once it would have been difficult to see the wood for the trees in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, as much of the parish was covered by forest. The Millennium Wood is a small attempt to redress the balance.

Created on land once used as a tree nursery by South Oxfordshire District Council, the wood was planted over two weeks in March 2000 by more than a hundred villagers of all ages.

The project was conceived and managed by the Environment Group, with the aim of providing a lasting memento of the Millennium. It may not look much now, but the hope is that future generations will benefit from this attempt to put the green back into our green and pleasant land.
