Save the Children Fund

Brightwell-cum-Sotwell has been supporting Save the Children for over 60 years. Margaret & Bob Robinson, Norah Kew, Pat Humphries and Pauline Montgomery built the firm foundations of support that we still enjoy today. Celia Collett has been on our committee for over 45 years and has been the Chair for over 30 years. Celia received an MBE from the Queen in 2004 for her services to the Community which included the fantastic work she does for Save the Children here in the village.
Our annual house-to-house collection takes place in late April, the plant sale in May and various other fundraising events are held during the year including cake sales, the dog show, the bi-annual Charity Ball, Card & Gift sales and the beloved carols around the Save the Children Christmas tree in The Square on Christmas Eve. The support we receive from the village community is absolutely fantastic, which often includes working with others including the Scouts, the School and other charities. Our aim is always to give something back to the community, especially the children, whilst raising funds.
Over the years, we have raised a significant amount of money which has helped to build better lives for children both in the UK and around the world. Save the Children is one of the collective charities within the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) which enables a quick response to emergencies as they happen across the world. Monies raised are spent in the most efficient and effective ways. Most recently we have been raising money to help the vulnerable children and families caught up in the conflict in Ukraine.
